The New Community Workforce Development Center is a state-of-the-art, $4.5 million continuing education facility and New Jersey's premier one-stop Center. The three-story, 25,000 square foot center on Bergen Street in Newark's Central Ward is the result of a unique partnership between New Community, foundations, financial institutions and government agencies.
Our center offers highly qualified staff, educational and training courses, supportive services, career information, financial aid and job placement assistance. All Workforce Development programs provide graduates with marketable skills in fields where there is high demand and ample opportunity for professional growth.
The Workforce Development Center is committed to student success, both in the classroom and in the workplace. Its approach to education is career-focused. Whether you want to acquire skills to launch a new career or attain additional skills to advance professionally, The New Community Workforce Development Center should be your first stop.
At The Workforce Development Center, students choose from occupational programs developed in response to labor market research. They learn in the classroom and receive hands-on training through practical experience and internships. Our teaching curriculum is delivered by skilled staff and utilizes innovative, cutting-edge industrial tools.
Intensive training courses in the following professions:
Entrance Requirements
All students must be at least 17 years of age on or before the first day of class
Students can be admitted with one of the following:

The Center is minutes from Newark Penn Station and is available by NJ Transit buses. Also is handicapped accessible.

Entrance Requirements
All students must be at least 17 years of age on or before the first day of class
Students can be admitted with one of the following:
- High School Diploma
- G.E.D. (General Education Development Certificate)
- Ability to Benefit – If a student has no high school diploma or G.E.D. they must take a pre-placement test with a minimum score of 6th grade level in reading and math. Students may be admitted provided they can demonstrate the “ability to benefit” from the education or training offered by successfully passing a nationally recognized admissions test administered by an independent test proctor before enrolling in school.
- Applicants must score 5.9 on the Test of Adult Basic Education or show the Ability to Benefit from the program
