NCC offers a variety of human service programs for youth, senior citizens, medically frail or homebound individuals, and pregnant women. The Social Services department interacts closely with New Community’s family and senior housing units. 

In all NCC senior housing facilities there is a social services office staffed by a care coordinator and social worker. The goals of this department are to coordinate all of NCC’s social services for the residents or to assist in obtaining outside resources, such as;
  • Assisting with applications for PAAD, CCEPD, Medicaid, lifeline, Home-Health/Aid services.
  • Meals-On-Wheels for seniors who are 60+
  • Wellness Clinics ~ on-site services provided by Essex Valley Visitng Nurse Association
  • Wellness Exercise Programs
  • Assistance with FREE wireless services
  • Home Friend Program for Seniors with Medicare only (Light Housekeeping for seniors 60+)
  • Provide Outreach/Care Management
  • Referrals
  • Provide food packages
  • Provide senior day trips  year round
  • Assist with applications for Cooling
  • Provide help with getting senior rate plans for cable and phone services 
  • Complete applications for the half fare bus plan
  • Individual counseling - referrals made to The Family Service Bureau of Newark
  • Assist in finding transportation services

Workforce Development Center ~ Contemporary one-stop center providing career training for individuals, youth and welfare to work opportunities in several areas:
  • School of Practical Nursing - offers training in Licensed Practical Nursing to primarily low-income individuals, increasing their earning potential by 150%.
  • Gateway-To-Work - for welfare recipients transferring into the workforce
  • Automotive Training - mechanics and auto repair training
  • Culinary Arts Institute - chef and restaurateur training
  • Literacy and GED training
  • On-site Career Counseling
  • Admissions and Financial Aid (eligibility requirements) services
  • Job placement assistance
More than 1,800 residents and employees have enrolled in NCC literacy classes during the last 3 years. NCC’s welfare reform efforts have helped to shift more than 4,000 people from welfare to work in the past 5 years. Read more…
