Love Harmony House

“I love the center. My oldest son has been here in Harmony House since he was four months old and he graduated two years ago,” said Janice Williams, a parent from the community who utilizes the center. “I still have two of my sons here. The teachers are doing a great job. They treat my children as their own children.”

Monsignor William J.Linder Scholarship Fund ~ Student Becomes First Officer of Continental Airlines
The most important gift we can give our children is the gift of faith in God and faith in oneself. We give the gift of education, access, and opportunity in order to achieve this. Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with Chrystal Dunbar, who received her start in life at a New Community School. As a toddler in her stroller, Chrystal would always look up to the sky, point, and gleefully shout “airplane!” when she saw a plane. More than twenty years later, she is a First Officer with Continental Airlines and is living her dream. Read More...

Spring Festival Is In The Air

New Community Corporation’s Annual Spring Festival on
Saturday, April 24th, a fun-filled evening that will see seniors squaring off against NCC employees on the dance floor to help raise scholarship money for needy students.

This year’s Festival is being held at the NCC Neighborhood Center, located at 56-68 Hayes Street, in Newark. The festival will run from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. and NCC security will be on duty to ensure festival-goers a safe and enjoyable evening.

An array of delicious food will be provided by the NCC School of Culinary Arts and the evening will also feature a raffle with prizes ranging from computers to television sets.

“The Festival is an event that will bring people together for a great time and help support a worthy cause,” said Tracey Battles, who heads the spring festival committee.

Proceeds from the event, for which tickets are $25, benefit the Monsignor William J. Linder Scholarship Fund. For over 20 years, the Fund has helped support over 2,000 students who have continued their education at a parochial or other non-public high school. Nearly 96% of our scholarship fund recipients have gone on to attend colleges and universities of their choice.

“We depend heavily on this festival to ensure we can continue to support these students,” said Monsignor Linder. “During these difficult economic times when many families are struggling, the students need our help more than ever.”

Corporations and local businesses, along with individuals, are encouraged to place an ad in the festival ad journal, which will be viewed by not only the hundreds who turn out for the event, but employees and contacts of the vast New Community Corporation network. In the past, many parents have seized the opportunity to feature a child in an ad who is graduating this spring, a good way to share the news with family members and friends.

To obtain tickets for the festival, please call 973 482- 0682. You can also log onto the New Community Website at www.newcommunity.org. try manor clubhouse. The program will feature a personal testimony from an individual who has been helped by NCC’s youth programming, which encompasses two early learning centers, youth programs based at the NCC Recreation Center, after-school academic enrichment and annual summer camp.

To sign up as a participant in New Community’s 16th Annual Golf Classic or for sponsorship and ad journal information, please visit www.newcommunity.org or call 973 497-4409.
