Youth Automotive Technician Training scollins@newcommunity.org
Young adults, ages 16-21, are trained for automotive technician careers. Every effort is made to duplicate the workplace, including wearing uniforms and punching a clock. When they finish the fifteen-month program, YATC students can earn $8-$12 per hour. They have the ability to quickly move up to jobs that pay $14-$20 per hour. The goal is earning $40,000 a year within five years of graduation.
The proof of YATC’s success is in its results. Hundreds of graduates can be found working at auto dealerships and for other companies throughout Northern New Jersey, and none of the at-risk youth that have graduated from the program have returned to their former lifestyle.
