Media Advisory: Nearly 100 Teenagers from China

What: The Chinese teenagers will engage in a cultural exchange with teenagers from Newark, NJ as part of Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Emerging Global Leaders Seminar.

When: Tuesday August 9, 10:30 am-3:00 p.m.

Where: New Community Corporation (NCC), 233 West Market St., Newark, NJ 07103

Background: The teenagers visiting from China to attend FDU’s Emerging Global Leaders Seminar will travel to New Community Corporation, which has been working since 1968 to help Newark residents improve the quality of their lives to reflect individual God-given dignity and personal achievement. There, they will take part in a program that will culminate in three students from each nation speaking in front of the entire group to share information about themselves. That will be followed by an extended, informal lunch period during which the students have an opportunity to learn more about each other and develop friendships. The students will share information about each other’s culture and the Chinese students will also be treated to a luncheon buffet that includes traditional African-American dishes.

Traymanesha Moore, a graduate of the NCC Youth Program who went on to earn her Ph.D., will be a featured speaker at 10:40 a.m. Dr. Moore is now employed by Rutgers University as program coordinator of the Rutgers Future Scholars Program on the Rutgers-Newark campus.

During the morning session, students will be welcomed by NCC founder Monsignor William J. Linder and Newark Deputy Mayor Margarita Muñiz.

The Chinese students will be staying at The College at Florham of Fairleigh Dickinson University, 285 Madison Ave., Madison, NJ 07940 from Aug. 7-10.
